The first iPod was released in 2001 and since then, Apple has created a number of versions.  More than 250 Million iPods have been sold. So are you one of the millions that owns one? Well, what would you do if it was damaged or stolen? Would it be covered by your insurance?

iPods can be pricey, often costing hundreds of dollars. Downloading music can cost a dollar a song, videos can cost even more.

The good news: most homeowners policies cover personal property while it is anywhere in the world.

The bad news: coverage is limited, meaning the check you receive after the loss may be smaller than expected.

Even if you think your iPod is worth a thousand dollars, a homeowners insurance policy is designed to cover "direct physical loss" to property.  This means a typical policy will only cover the cost of the device itself, not the information stored on it. However, some homeowner policies include coverage for loss to "personal records."
